History Of The Building

Cafe Mosaic opened its doors in 2007 and quickly became a staple of Eunice lifestyle.  The building located at 202 South 2nd Street in Eunice, Louisiana was built in 1914 originally as a confectionary store, and has since been the home of a drug store, a clothing store, and a flower shop.

Cafe Mosaic Eunice LA before remodelingIn 2007 21-year-old Nathanael Johnson, fresh out of college with a degree in business, bought the then dilapidated building in hopes of turning it into something great.  Nathanael worked twelve hours a day, every day for six months with his father and a few good friends to bring the building that had been vacant for nearly thirty years into the 21st Century. "When I first bought the building," explains Nathanael, "It was in really bad shape, there was no electricity, plumbing, or air conditioning, the roof leaked, it was basically an empty shell."

His hard worked paid off.  Nathanael was able to salvage the original mosaic tile flooring, for which the cafe is named, along with the original brick, and a few other original features.  The cafe now incorporates early 20th century architecture with modern design elements that combine to create a cozy environment to relax with a cup of coffee and enjoy a good book, the free wi-fi, or perhaps a poetry reading at Cafe Mosaic's open mic night.
